I am thankful for all of the memories I have of my life, some good, some sad, some happy, some not so good, some just plain awful. But I’m thankful to have a life that is full of memories. And I’m also thankful for my memory, that I remember all the memories, because some people can’t remember.

I am thankful that I live in a country where I am free. A country where I have the right to vote for the leaders of our country. I hope that all of you took advantage of that right today and expressed your views by voting. No matter if we agree politically or not, we should not take our rights for granted.

American by birth and by the grace of God.

Naptime

Today I am thankful for naptime…in two ways

First of all, I work at a daycare and I’m thankful for nap time when the kids are asleep. This probably sounds lazy, but during this time I get to take care of things in my room that I just can’t do when the kids are awake. And then when the work is done I get to sit and read and get paid for it!

Secondly, I am thankful for my own nap time! Since I have to be at work super early every morning I am thankful when I get to come home and catch some winks before the rest of my family gets home.

Funny, when I was a little kid I refused to take naps…

Thanksgiving

Today I am thankful that the October 31st “Holiday” is over, because now it is the season of Thanksgiving! I’m really not very fond of the month of October because of all the decorations, scary movies and anything else having to do with Halloween. But the month of November is a different story. It is a month when people begin to take the time to think about the blessings in their lives. I hope that this month will truly be a time of thankfulness in your life and that you will be encouraged to carry that on throughout the other months of the year.

As tired as I am right now I am thankful for my job. I work at a daycare and as a lead teacher in the 9-18 month old room I have to be at work at 6:20 every morning. I am most definitely a night owl and never a morning person…as my boss has discovered I can be quite a grouch before the sun comes up. I am often frustrated with my job for a number of reasons, but today I am thankful for my job. I’m thankful, not because I had a good day at work or because I loved my job today, but I’m thankful because it gives me the money to pass my bills. More specifically, my job provides the money for my car payment for my car that I LOVE! So I’m thankful for my job because I love my car.

The Thankful Wall

My senior year of college I started what I like to think of as a campaign of Thankfulness. It was a rough semester for me and a difficult time in my sorority as well and I really wanted people to focus on positive things. I read an article in Reader’s Digest about a study that showed that people who are Thankful live longer. So in an effort to prolong my life and the lives of my friends I decided to be thankful and encourage my friends to be thankful as well. One afternoon when I had some time to kill I started to make a list of things I was thankful for. What started out as a few things that came to mind turned into fifty and then one hundred things. I discovered that if I could come up with one hundred things to be thankful for in less than five minutes, than I am a truly blessed person. So I posted this list outside my door and since I happened to live across the hall from the very slow elevator, I got a lot of readers while they waited. It wasn’t long before one of my sorority sister’s poked her head in my door and asked for a piece of paper. ”Sure, what for?” I asked. ”I want to make a thankful list too.” She said. And that’s how it began. From that day on people stopped by my door to read and everyday when I came back from class the first thing I would do was check for a new “post” on my wall. Girls would come by with full, typed lists or just sticky notes of something they thought of in class. Most of them included the main things we are thankful for: family, friends, clothes, school, and many included the simple things in life that can make your day sometimes: ice cream, sticky notes, facebook. Even some of the guys got into it and spent over an hour one night writing them own lists to add to the collection. This section outside my door became “The Thankful Wall” and whenever I needed some positive reassurance in my life this was the place to go, either to read someone else’s list or to write a new one myself or just revisit what I had written in the past.

I no longer live by the elevator, I actually graduated and I no longer live on the hall in the dorms. I miss that wall of thanks and all the positive thoughts that went with it. So I wanted to have a place to see that thankfulness in black and white again. I hope that you will take the time to leave a note and mention what you are thankful for today.
